PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS


SURGICAL TIME
Please call the Center for Special Surgery at 864-527-7700 after 10:00am the day before your surgery to receive your scheduled arrival time.

If we determine a further need for additional lab work you will be directed to one of our contracted labs, Quest Diagnostics [ CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS TO QUEST ]. If you have not received a call by 4:00 PM the day before surgery, please call us at 864.527.7700.


BEFORE SURGERY
Do Not eat or drink after midnight. This includes candy, ice chips, gum, etc.

Blood Pressure Medications and Stomach Medications such as Nexium or Zantac should be taken early A.M with a sip of water.

If you are Diabetic please check your blood sugar at home before you leave so we can monitor your sugar levels. If your blood sugar is greater than 250 please call the facility before you leave.

NO diabetic medications are to be taken before surgery unless directed by a nurse prior to day of surgery. This includes INSULIN. We will monitor your blood sugar levels at the center.

Do Not wear jewelry, makeup, perfume, hairpins, or contact lenses.Wear loose clothing, such as pull on pants and a button up shirt.


DAY OF SURGERY
Sign-in with the receptionist at the appointed time. One family member or friend must remain in the waiting area at all times. A legal guardian must be present with children under 18 years of age. Please leave all valuables at home.


PRE-OP / RECOVERY ROOM
The Anesthesiologist will speak to after you are ready for surgery. They will answer ALL your questions and talk to you about your medical history.

Family members may sit with you before going back to surgery.

Cell phones may only be used in the waiting area and are not permitted in the recovery area.


AFTER SURGERY
The Surgeon will speak to your family in a private room.You will receive written discharge instructions that you are to follow until your return visit to your doctor. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, call your surgeon at his Office or DIAL 911.
