The Center for Special Surgery was based on three major premises:
PATIENT CARE
Our physicians have always had quality paitient care as their number one priority. The commitment to nurturing patient care and the attention and hard work that follow this commitment has been a recipe for success. The Surgery Center was the next vision to provide quality patient care all under one roof.
EMPLOYEE COMMITMENT
The Surgery Center provided the opportunity to build a team of professionals all committed to providing top level patient care.
PHYSICIAN COMMITMENT
The Center for Special Surgery is committed to credentialing the top outpatient surgeons in our community. As stated in our Mission Statement, we are dedicated to being the premier Ambulatory Surgery Center in our community to attract the very best physicians. The strength of the supporting staff, the cutting edge equipment, and an environment conducive to warmth, friendliness and safety will compliment our Total Patient Care philosophy and ultimately our success.
We opened our Center in September, 2002, and the response from our patients has been rewarding and gratifying. We will continue to expand our multi-specialty surgical center without losing a focus on the foundations that have led to success and better patient care in our community. |

Why Choose an Ambulatory Surgical Center?
Each year over 6 million surgeries are performed in more than 2,700 Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) across the United States. They provide a cost-effective and convenient environment that is less stressful than what many hospitals offer.
A recent study by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) indicated Medicare beneficiaries prefer ASCs to hospitals for outpatient surgical and diagnostic procedures.
The OIG survey also showed:
- Beneficiaries prefer outpatient surgery to in-hospital stays.
- 98 percent of beneficiaries said they were satisfied with ASCs.
- Reasons cited for a preference of ASCs over hospital outpatient departments included less paperwork, lower cost, a more convenient location and parking.
- Also cited was less waiting at the ASC, more organized and friendlier staff compared to crowded and uncomfortable hospital settings.
Another survey conducted by Arthur Anderson showed that more than half of the ASCs that responded started more than 82% of their cases on time. Another reason patients like ASCs is value. A study conducted by Blue Cross/Blue Shield revealed that, on average, procedures performed at ASCs cost 47% less than those same procedures performed in hospitals.
Furthermore, every study ever done has showed that the quality of care delivered at ASCs is equal to or better than comparable hospital care.

Our Mission Statement
The Center for Special Surgery is committed in its efforts to become the premier Ambulatory Surgery Center in South Carolina. We strive to make the patients health and well-being our primary interest and primary goal.
We will provide the same high quality care to all we see regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. All those we come in contact with will be treated with dignity and respect.
